Just a couple of chapters today: John 10, Luke 13:22-35, and Luke 14:1-24. Jesus is such a master teacher – what are you learning today? Let’s read and visit!
“strive to enter through the narrow gate” Luke 13:24 NKJV
Look at it in the Message translation:
“A bystander said, ‘Master, will only a few be saved?’ Jesus said, ‘Whether few or many is none of your business. Put your mind on your life with God. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires your total attention. A lot of you are going to assume that you’ll sit down to God’s salvation banquet just because you’ve been hanging around the neighborhood all your lives’ ” Luke 13:23-24
Even if it’s harder, do more than you have to do, do more than the minimum. Draw close to the Lord.
“On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, ‘Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.’ And He said to them, ‘Go, tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.’ Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following’ ” Luke 13:31-33 NKJV
When Jesus called Herod a fox, it made me think of Song 2:15 – the fox wanted to destroy the tender grapes, before they’d had a chance to meet their purpose. Jesus had not reached His purpose at this point yet.
In Luke 14:1-6, Jesus makes the point about not leaving an animal over the Sabbath – an easy example to understand and straight to the point, as Jesus always was. What a great Teacher!
