Please read Joshua 10, Joshua 11, and Joshua 12:1-6. Busy day! Let’s visit – here’s what I am thinking this morning:
I had forgotten about this war – how difficult this must have been for Joshua and the people. I notice that Joshua prayed aloud in front of everyone, so all could hear.
“The day God gave the Amorites up to Israel, Joshua spoke to God, with all Israel listening:
“Stop, Sun, over Gibeon;
Halt, Moon, over Aijalon Valley.”
And Sun stopped,
Moon stood stock still
Until he defeated his enemies.” (10:12-13 MSG)
This must have encouraged their faith when they heard Joshua pray and then saw God act on their behalf! In this way, Joshua directed all praise back to God.
I also notice that Joshua was obedient and didn’t leave anything that God asked him to do undone:
“Joshua took the whole region. He did everything that God had told Moses. Then he parceled it out as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribes. And Israel had rest from war” (11:23 MSG)
