chronological day 78 :)

Please read Deuteronomy 26, 27, 28 and 29:1. Does anyone else see a theme developing as Moses is teaching the children of Israel?  Obedience, obedience, obedience!  He is about to send them into the promised land on their own, after 40 years together. I imagine he feels a great deal of responsibility toward them.

The blessings of obedience are many! The opposite, though….

“Among all the peoples where God will take you, you’ll be treated as a lesson or a proverb” (28:37 MSG)

God can use our lives, whether or not we are in obedience.  If we are obedient, God will use us as a lesson or example to other of what to do.  If we are disobedient, God will use us as a proverb or warning to others of what not to do.  (Remember? Nothing is ever wasted by the Lord – but we could waste our lives in disobedience). Thankfully we live under grace purchased for us by the Blood of Jesus – but even still, disobedience carries heavy consequences.

I noticed in these passages we were told in two different chapters about the curses that would be placed on us for breaking these commandments. However, there was only one chapter telling of the blessing they could expect for keeping the commandments. God knew they were a fallen people, the flesh is weak.
I have a question here. When Moses brought the 10 commandments down from God, did that release all the 200 some odd laws previously enforced? I always thought the cross released us from the law and we were placed under grace?

The wrath of GOD! yes obedience is key here and has been reiterated in these last few chapters.
GOD made us in his image, this we know, But why tell us of the destruction and suffering we will endure? This is a reminder that GOD wants us to obey and live and not be disobedient and die. I see our everyday struggles and know we have to hold on to Hope and Faith and not give up even though it’s the easy way out.
Today’s takeaway: why would we choose anything else other than blessings? GOD has placed the commandments in front of us, yes we will fail but don’t fail intentionally and say GOD will forgive us. These last chapters describe his anger if we disobey. Thank GOD for the blood of Jesus Christ.

Good question David, I would also be interested in knowing this answer. If I remember correctly from last years reading I dont believe Jesus came to over ride the laws of moses’ time but to complete them. It was something in that matter. Mrs Jennifer please shed light if you don’t mind.

Thank you for the insight Mrs. Jennifer, as a new believer and rookie to the Bible I sometimes have questions. David, we just became .0005629% smarter.

    Thank-you Mrs Jennifer,
I will have more of these odd ball questions I am sure. I have read the Bible several times but am no scholar by any means. Thanks for helping us on this journey…… I just hope you don’t run out of red ink correcting me..
